Tribute as Sound Sultan dies at 44
LAGOS, Nigeria – Multi-talented singer and song writer, Lanre Fasasi better known as Sound Sultan is dead. He died after a protracted bout with angioimmunoblastic T-Cell lymphoma. He was 44, the family said in a statement signed by Dr. Kayode Fasasi.
Sound Sultan, who is well known for his evergreen music, Jagbanjantis. He is survived by a wife and three children, two boys and a girl. Sound Sultan was one of those celebrated in the days of Star Megajam, by Star brand of beer produced by Nigerian Breweries.
In her tribute to the late musician, former Force PRO, Lagos State, Opeto Dolapo described his demise as a rude shock. “I came to know you very well when I called on you to help sensitise the youths in the programme I launched years back, tagged “Entertainment meets Security”.
“ We discussed for two hours on how to help youths live a positive life. You were open, well informed and ready to engage the youths. We made you one of the ambassadors, a task you performed diligently well”, she said, adding that Sound Sultan remains a committed Muslim who placed a lot of value in his prayers.
For Adebayo Salami, Sound Sultan blessed with world with his brand of music.
But one of Nigeria’s most celebrated Standup comedian, Basket Mouth, Sound Sultan is wise humble and a cool headed musician. “For over 20 years, not once did I see you lose your cool. A wise man, humble, kind hearted and true definition of a good friend.
“I will definitely miss those early hours of the day that I will call you and share my crazy ideas with you while taking notes as you throw in your genius touch. You were selfless, discipline and professional, unarguably one of the best writers I have ever seen. A brilliant actor, musician and even though you never did it you were one of the best comedians I’ve ever seen.
“One of the most creative humans I have ever met, extremely intelligent with so much to give. We lost a good man today, we lost a great man. You were the best of us all and I will miss you so much. I love you salty salty”, he said of the late Sound Sultan.
