BAYELSA TO PROFESSIONALIZE WORKFORCE FOR EXCELLENT SERVICE DELIVERY

YENEGOA – Bayelsa State Government has announced plans to commence rigorous training programmes for public servants by next year, as part of efforts to restructure the service, towards enhancing productivity.

Dickson announced this over the weekend at the swearing in ceremony of 2 permanent secretaries, Mr. Joseph Tarimo Aseimo and Mr. Jonah Cockbrown Napoleon at the Executive Council Chambers of Government House, Yenagoa.




He stressed the need for public servants to acquire the requisite skills, through training and re-training to achieve excellence and professionalism, pointing out that, a well-trained workforce is key to the effective implementation of its policies and programmes.

According to him, the two appointees have displayed exceptional excellence and commitment in the performance of their functions in the service, noting that, their elevation as permanent secretaries was a way of rewarding hard work.

The Governor, who noted that, Mr. Aseimo has served the state in his capacity as Accountant General without any blemish, urged the permanent secretaries to see their promotion as a call to higher service, as the government was assigning those in the top cadre of the service to head critical agencies, particularly those that are generating revenue.

He said, “We are posting permanent secretaries to man critical agencies, especially revenue generating agencies that play a leading role in turning around the economy. That is why we need more permanent secretaries and experienced manpower to be in charge of such agencies.

“Mr. Cockbrown Napoleon has been appointed the secretary of the Urban and Physical Planning Authority, to man the administration. Now, this is the very first time a permanent secretary has been appointed to head that place.




“For us to succeed as a government, we need the civil service to execute our policies and programmes. And the public service itself needs experienced leaders to drive and regulate, develop and maintain new standards because our vision for the service in the next couple of years is that systems would have been in place for the rigorous training which would commence next year for our public service to be one of the best in Nigeria.”

Tarimo Aseimo was until his appointment as permanent secretary, the Accountant General of the state, while Mr. Jonah Cockbrown was a director at the Bayelsa State Post Primary School Board.
