RED ALERT FOR MARATHON MUDDDIES: Pair charged over ‘red paint’ chaos just days before 2026 race kicks off

A PAIR of eco-nuisances who allegedly tried to ruin last year’s London Marathon with a “red mist” protest have finally been hauled before the courts.

The move comes as a “ring of steel” is prepared for this Sunday’s race, with cops warning potential copycats: “You will be nicked.”

Just as the elite male runners were pounding across the iconic Tower Bridge during the 2025 event, two protesters allegedly leapt over the barriers.

The duo reportedly stormed the course at 10:30 am, spraying red powder paint across the road in a bid to derail the world-famous race. Quick-thinking marathon staff and Met officers tackled the pair to the ground before the leaders’ trainers could be stained.

Following a lengthy probe by the Met’s Public Order Crime Team, two people have now been charged with causing a public nuisance:
    Cristy North, 38, from Nottingham.
    Ivan Holland, 19, from Bristol.
The pair are set to face the music at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 15 May.

With over 50,000 runners expected to take to the streets this Sunday, April 26, Scotland Yard is taking no chances.

Commander Nick John, heading up the massive policing operation, vowed that his team is ready to pounce on any troublemakers looking for their five minutes of fame.

“The safety and security of not just participants but also spectators is our top priority,” Commander John warned.

“Measures are in place to identify and intervene against anyone trying to get onto the course. Anyone who does so can expect to be arrested, investigated and prosecuted.”
Police have been planning the 2026 security operation for an entire year to ensure the only thing “running” on Sunday is the athletes.
