HANOVA – A German state parliament has been defaced with Islamist slogans in the northern city of Hanover on Friday night.
The attack on the building is alleged to have been done by Muslim radicals who have attacked by the German State with prescription of their places of worship.
Some of the Islamic centres in Germany have been shut, with some members ordered to leave the country.
The parliament of Lower Saxony was “smeared with political slogans and symbols of a radical Islamist terrorist organization,” said parliamentary president Hanna Naber.
“I condemn this act in the strongest possible terms,” she added.
According to a police statement, unidentified persons painted the slogans in red between 3 am (0100 GMT) and 4 am.
Authorities have secured evidence and started an investigation, while the state parliament is also to carry out an internal probe.
“We will do everything we can to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice,” said Naber.
“The Lower Saxony state parliament stands for democratic debate.”
The incident occurred directly before an open day in the state parliament, which is still due to go ahead.
“This incident will not deter us,” Naber said.
