GAZA- The leader of the Palestinian movement Hamas in the Gaza Strip, Yahya Sinwar, has said that Hamas is ready to strike a deal in order to exchange all the Palestinians held in Israeli prisons for all the hostages captured by the radicals in their operation in Israel.
“We [Hamas] are ready to immediately seal a deal to swap all the [Israeli hostages] we are holding for all the Palestinian captives [in Israeli prisons],” said Sinwar, cited by the Al Hadath television channel.
He spoke just as Israeli troops crossed into the Gaza Strip to eliminate the radical Palestinian organization Hamas and to release the hostages captured during Hamas’ attack on Israel on October 7 and held in the enclave since then, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said.
“Citizens of Israel, last night our ground troops went through the Gaza gates to enter the den of evil. It is a war with clearly defined objectives, which are to ruin Hamas’ power and have the hostages back,” he said in a televised address to the nation.
Meanwhile, Israeli Ambassador to Russia Alexander Ben Zvi has told TASS storming Gaza in ground offensive a narrow-scale operation.
“Our military calls it a narrow-scale military operation. So, I will repeat their words. A military operation from the air, sea and ground is being conducted indeed, but then again, as our military says, that hasn’t been a large-scale offensive yet,” the Israeli diplomat said.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it entered northern Gaza last night, IDF Spokesman Daniel Hagari told a news briefing as he announced an expansion of Israeli ground operations earlier.
