Novak Djokovic to play in Australian Open
MELBORNE, Australia – World number one tennis star, Novak Djokovic who earlier in the week won a legal battle against the Australian authority has been listed among 32 athletes to feature in the Australian Open.
Novak Djokovic is listed just four days to the Australian Open which will commence Monday, January 17, 2022 in Melborne.
Recall that the tennis player’s visa was revoked at point of entry into Australia and he was detained at a quarantine hotel but his legal team went to court, earning him victory and stay in Australia.
Novak Djokovic had voiced his opposition to taking the Coronavirus vaccine but he was nevertheless exempted by organizers of the Australian Open but the Australian authority say he did not meet the medical criteria for such an exemption.
Apart from Novak Djokovic who is listed as number one, other male players listed for the tournament are Daniil Medvedev (RUS), Alexander Zverev (GER), Stefanos Tsitsipas (GRE), Andrey Rublev (RUS), Rafael Nadal (ESP), Matteo Berrettini (ITA), Casper Ruud (NOR), Felix Auger-Aliassime (CAN) and Hubert Hurkacz (POL).
Others are Jannik Sinner (ITA), Cameron Norrie (GBR), Diego Schwartzman (ARG), Denis Shapovalov (CAN), Roberto Bautista Agut (ESP), Cristian Garin (CHI), Gael Monfils (FRA), Aslan Karatsev (RUS), Pablo Carreno Busta (ESP), Taylor Fritz (USA), Nikoloz Basilashvili (GEO), John Isner (USA), Reilly Opelka (USA) and Daniel Evans (GBR).
Still in the list are Lorenzo Sonego (ITA), Grigor Dimitrov (BUL) Marin Cilic (CRO), Karen Khachanov (RUS), Ugo Humbert (FRA) Lloyd Harris (RSA), Carlos Alcaraz (ESP) and Alex de Minaur (AUS).
