    3,704 corps members pass out in Anambra observing social distancing

    ONITSHA, Anambra, Nigeria – Anambra state command of National Youths Service Corps NYSC on Thursday passed out a total of 3,704 corps   members in the 2019 Batch ‘B’ Stream while complying with COVID-19 social distancing protocol.

    They corps members were also directed to collect their discharge certificates at the various local government council areas in the state.

    The ceremony which was low-keyed, was conducted under strict observance of social distancing and other COVID-19 precautionary measures as directed by the World Health Organisation, (WHO).

    The NYSC State Coordinator,  Mr. Kehinde Aremu, in a chat with newsmen in Aguata shortly after  touring some centers in the state, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of corps members during the ceremony.

    According to him, all the manpower of the scheme in the state were deployed to every local government areas in the state to ensure a seamless exercise.

     “We have gone round all the centers. There was strict compliance to the COVID-19 protocol. I also want to assure you that all our officers were sent out to participate in the certificate distribution.

    “One other thing we have done is to stagger the distribution of the discharge certificates. We allocated days to each of the corps members across the local governments to collect their certificates  depending on the numerical strength in each area, “he stated

    Aremu also said that  any corps member who wishes  to travel out of the state was free  to make such trips as the Director General of the scheme, Shuaibu Ibrahim had  secured permission from the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu to that effect.

    “We are  excited that the DG, was able to link up with the IGP, the Corps Marshall of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to ensure free passage of corps members who wish to go back home during the lockdown.

    “On our own part here, we have  synergised with the Sector Command of the  FRSC and  other security agencies to ensure  the easy passage of  corps members,” he added.

    The  Coordinator,  however announced three months service extension for four corps members in the state for  various offences.

    “One thing I am very sure is that with the kind of training and orientation we have given the corps members, all through the year, they will make them to excel.

    “Our target from the outset is that if we put the entire corps members in the country together, those in Anambra will distinguish themselves in terms of excellence, knowledge and comportment,” he added.
