MANILA, Philippines – Not less than 35 people were killed when a gunman believed to be an armed robber stormed a resort in Manila, Philippines, shooting and setting gambling machines on fire.

The gunman was said to have stormed the casino section of the resort late Thursday night shooting and setting many machines on fire, leading to death of 35 people.

Among those dead are staff of the casino. Several peoples died by gunshot, some burnt while others were suffocated to death.

Chief Legal Officer of the resort, Georgina Alvarez read out the names of the dead to reporters and family waiting outside the casino.

According to her, 13 were employees of the casino while 22 were guests. Philippines Police have described the incident as a robbery attempt by one person and not a terrorist attack. They are yet to identify the bodies of six people, including two employees and four guests.

CNN reported that the bodies were found on the second floor of the building, spread across the casino area, the hallways and a bathroom, police said.

“They died due to suffocation from smoke when the suspect deliberately set fire to carpets and tables using gasoline he brought with him. The windows were locked”, police said.
