ABUJA — In a major political move aimed at solidifying opposition structures ahead of upcoming general elections, the presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Peter Obi, hosted his vice-presidential candidate and former Governor of Kano State, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, alongside party candidates at the Obidient Headquarters in Abuja.
The high-level strategic session brought together NDC governorship, senatorial, and parliamentary candidates from across the country to align on grassroots penetration, policy agenda delivery, and electoral victory strategies.
According to Obi, the deliberations centered primarily on expanding the reach of the party beyond urban centers and taking its message of national redemption directly into rural communities and hinterlands across Nigeria.
Blueprint for Grassroots Mobilisation
Addressing the candidates, Obi reassured party faithful of his unwavering support across their respective constituencies.
He emphasized that achieving electoral success requires deliberate groundwork, seamless coordination, and direct voter engagement at the ward level.
”I reassured our candidates of my continued support in their respective states and constituencies,” Obi stated. “I also reaffirmed my commitment to working with them and undertaking the necessary groundwork to secure victory for our party.”
Describing Senator Kwankwaso as a “dear elder brother,” Obi stressed that their political partnership goes beyond mere electoral ambitions.
He characterized the alliance as a rescue mission intended to offer Nigerians a credible, alternative vision of governance.
”My partnership with His Excellency Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso is a partnership to rescue Nigeria from the calamitous and ineffective leadership that has brought our country to its present condition,” Obi noted.

During the session, the leadership of the NDC outlined key priority areas designed to address Nigeria’s pressing economic, security, and human capital development challenges:
Poverty Reduction: Implementing structured social safety nets to systematically lift vulnerable citizens out of extreme poverty.
Education Reform: Reducing the staggering number of out-of-school children across the country through targeted community interventions.
Economic Growth: Providing robust institutional support and credit facilities to Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs).
National Security & Unity: Securing borders, protecting farming communities, and rebuilding national cohesion across ethnoreligious lines.
Production-Centric Economy: Transitioning Nigeria’s economic structure from heavy consumption and import reliance to local production and industrial export.
Reiterating his core political slogan, Obi concluded: “A New Nigeria is POssible, and Nigeria will be OK.”
