ABUJA, Nigeria – Not yet off the hook in the defamatory publication suit, controversial content maker, Vincent Otse better known as Verydarkman has picked up another quarrel with the Nigeria Police of unauthorized use of service uniform and uncomplimentary portrayal of the police force in his video now trending online.
In the video, VDM, was clad in full police gear, prompting reaction from the Nigeria Police Force, by way of condemnation.
In a statement, the police dissociated itself from what is portrayed in the video and that it has launched full investigation to determine the source of the uniform deployed in the video.
According to the Police, unauthorized use of police uniform remains a criminal offence
“It is important to remind the public that the unauthorized use of police uniforms, insignia or accoutrements constitutes a criminal offense as stipulated in Section 251 of the Criminal Code Law and Section 133 of the Penal Code Law and is subject to strict penalties”, the police said.
The Police said that while it recognizes and supports the creativity of Nigerian youths in content creation, it cautions against misuse of police uniforms, or symbols.
“Unathorised use of these items undermines the values and integrity of the force and will not be tolerated”, the police said.
