BERLIN – It is indeed a hard won victory for Spain, which emerged winner of the encounter between Germany in the quarter final game at the ongoing Euro 2024 finals.
Never has a gain been so keenly contested, skill for skill and strength by strength. It was tension soaked right into the second half after the first half ended goalless.
But it was the young lads from Spain that got the upper hand in the 51st minutes when D. Olmo found the back of the German net.
The very agile Spanish team held onto the lone goal lead until the 89th minute when it caved in to German pressure, through Wirtz to put the scoreline at 1-1, pushing the game into extra time.
While many were thinking that the game would go into penalty kicks, Spain came from the side through Merino who found the back of the German net with his head after connecting a loose ball in the air from D. Olmo in the 119th minutes and in the process sending the gangling German team out of the Euro 2024 encounter.
Spain however ended the game with 9 players.
