Former Bayern player Xabi Alonso, who is in charge of league leaders Bayer Leverkusen, is considered a top target for Bayern, but board member for sport Max Eberl said after Saturday’s 8-1 thrashing of lowly Mainz they haven’t talked with anyone so far.
“We have a list of priorities we are working on,” Eberl said, naming a potential takeover fee as one of many aspects.
Sporting director Christoph Freund added: “There are many coaches. We are trying to find the best possible option.”
Freund said the club doesn’t want to wait too long but at the same time is determined to do “the right thing.”
Looking at midfielder and full back Kimmich, Freund said: “There will be talks with Jo, he had a really good game. Jo is a really good footballer, and a very important factor for the team.”
German international Kimmich has a contract until 2025 which means that Bayern can only generate a transfer fee in summer if he doesn’t want to stay.
Kimmich said: “My situation is very clear. I have a contract for more than a year. No one has talked to me yet. That’s why I am very relaxed.
“At the end of the day it is about showing my performance. We have European championships coming up, and then we will see what happens,” he said in reference to this summer’s Euro 2024 in Germany.
“I feel good in Munich. It is not bad here, although the past years where not quite as successful from a sporting side,” Kimmich said, with Bayern only winning the Bundesliga in past years but not succeeding in the German Cup and Champions League.
