BERLIN – Boris Becker will continue to coach Danish player Holger Rune next year, the German tennis icon said on Sunday.
Three-time Wimbledon champion Becker started working with world number eight Rune last month on a contract until the end of the season, after Rune had gone out in his first match in six of the seven tournaments after Wimbledon.
Rune improved again and qualified for the ATP Finals in Turin where he exited earlier in the week in the group stage. Becker said on X, formerly Twitter, that that the partnership has now been extended.
“I am very excited to continue my partnership with Holger Rune in 2024. We are building a team around Holger to bring out the best version of himself, on and off the court,” Becker said.
Becker, 55, had previously named 20-year-old Rune “a rough diamond that needs to be polished.”
The German has enjoyed past success as coach when he helped world number one win several grand slam titles during their partnership 2013-2016.
