HALLE – Olympic champions Alexader Zverev has reached the semi-finals of the Halle ATP grass tournament for the first time since 2017 by defeating Nicolas Jerry in his quest to pocket the €2,195,175 prize money.
Olympic champions Alexader Zverev has reached the semi-finals of the Halle ATP grass tournament for the first time since 2017 by defeating Nicolas Jerry.
The two-time finalist in Halle prevailed 7-5, 6-3, after overcoming Dominic Thiem and Denis Shapovalov in his first two matches.
Zverev had another consistent performance in front of his home crowd, facing only one key moment of difficulty, when in the second set, he faced three break points at 4-2, but fended off the danger.
“Of course I’m extremely happy to be back in the semi-finals in Germany. It was a lot of fun today. It was an incredibly beautiful atmosphere,” Zverev said. “I got a bit nervous at the end, but I think that’s quite normal.”
The German, who reached the final in Halle in 2016 and 2017, is seeking his first title since 2021, when he triumphed at the ATP Finals.
Zverev will now face Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik, who reached his second tour-level semi-final of the season after Jannik Sinner was forced to retire due to injury.
Bublik was leading 7-5, 2-0 when Sinner was forced to stop.
