MUNICH – German tennis star Alexander Zverev says his lofty objectives have not been downgraded by a series of bad injuries.
The 25-year-old Olympic champion has yet to win a grand slam singles title despite his obvious talent. He heads into this week’s Munich clay event 16th in the world rankings following his recovery from ankle surgery.
“I am young enough to say that my aims should not change,” he told reporters. I will soon be back 100% fit. I think I am playing better every week and hope this week is even better,” said Zverev, who was knocked out by Daniil Medvedev at last week’s Monte Carlo Masters in the last 16.
He wasted match points and then got into a spat with the Russian about unfair play.
Zverev – the 2017 and 2018 winner – will start his campaign at Munich’s BMW Open on Wednesday, with the clay event’s main draw having begun on Monday.
