PORT HARCOURT, Rivers – Veteran Nollywood filmmaker Hilda Dokubo has been appointed as chairman of Labour Party in River State.
In a letter Dated March 9, 2023 addressed to Chairman Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, signed by National Chairman of the party, Barrister Julius Abure, the party said that following the expiration and dissolution of the caretaker committee led by Dienye Pepple, a three man steering committee is hereby appointed with Hilda Dokubo as Chairman, Pastor Phillip Nyechi Loveday as Secretary, while Mr. Gogo Wellington is appointed as Publicity Secretary.
The letter said that the appointment of the caretaker committee is for one months, adding that this letter supersedes any other letter relating or connected there to.
Already Hilda Dokubo has been congratulated by colleagues in Nollywood. Her fellow filmmaker, Aquilla Njamah described her appointment as reward for what she has done in Rivers State Labour Party, adding that the reward for work is more work.
Hilda Dokubo is among those credited with what Nollywood has become. She has made dozens of films before venturing into politics.
She served as Special Adviser, Youth Affairs under Peter Odili as governor of Rivers State. It was this appointment that took her away from Nollywood and effectively kicked off her sojourn into politics in Rivers State.
