LAGOS, Nigeria – Nollywood star, Yomi Fayibi has hailed the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu over recent judgement on a colleague, Olanrewaju James alias Baba Ijesha, who was convicted and sentenced to 16 years imprisonment.
Baba Ijesha will however spend about five years in jail if he refused to appeal. He was under pressure to appeal the judgment shortly after the sentencing by his lawyer and friends.
Speaking on the development, Yomi Fabiyi who is founder Silence Foundation and convener human rights summit said the trial of his colleague meets international best practices.
“I am committed to HUMAN RIGHTS as enshrined in the constitution of Nigeria, African Union and United Nations charter. Kudos to the Government of Babajide Sanwoolu @lagosstategovt “, he said, adding that he will be discussing how Human Rights was enforced by Lagos State Government, The Lagos High Court and the Prosecution during this trial”, he said, adding that human Rights was enforced and the trial met international best practices. “A huge step forward for Nigeria”, he said.
Yomi Fabiyi explained that human right enforcement, Equal Rights, Rule of Law and Peace are crucial to the forward Nigeria we all desire, adding that without Enforcement and Protection of Human Rights, no true development, peace and security can come.
“This idea is worth risking everything for. If there is first anything we enjoy when we travel abroad before feeling other infrastructures, they are: human rights/rule of law, equal rights and peace), if these three above are taken away from both residents and visitors in these countries, we will not travel there and if we do, it must be under uncertainty and fear”, he said.
