Prof. Ojiyi emerges 3rd Executive Provost of Ojukwu Varsity College of Medicine

AWKA, Anambra, Nigeria – Dean, Faculty of Clinical Medicine, Chukwuemeka  Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Anambra State, Prof. Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Ojiyi, has emerged as the third Executive Provost of the College after  securing hundred percent of votes cast in an  election conducted on yesterday at the institutions  Pathology Auditorium, COOUTH, Amaku-Awka

Prof. Ojiyi is a professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the University and graduate of University of Nigeria Nsuka, Enugu state, class of 1988.

By his emergence, Ojiyi has broken the record by becoming the third Executive Officer in history of the nascent College of Medicine, now College of Medicine and Health Sciences and secured  a 100% support from all lectures of the College.

He will preside over the affairs of the college in the next four years.

Speaking to journalists on the outcome of the election, the  Chairman, Medical and Dental Consultant Association of Nigeria (MDCAN)-COOU branch, Dr Chukwudi Okani, said, that Prof. Ojiyi, won the election as the Provost of the College of Medicine hundred percent  and by his emergency he  would be the first Executive Provost to steer the ship of our College which now harbours three faculties for the next 4 years.

Ojiyi won by an unprecedented 100% votes of 36/36. All the 36 fulltime lecturers who turned out in time voted for ojiyi who is seen as a quintessential deity and academic colossus.

According to him, by this election, Prof. Ojiyi, has become a Permanent Member of our University Senate, has now secured another niche as a Member of our University Management, a Member of the University Council, a Member of our University Teaching Hospital

Management Board and the General Overseer of three Faculties in our College: Clinical Medicine, Basic Medicine and Health Sciences, he announced.

Okani also stated that the emergence of Ojiyi was not a surprise to any of them because he had demonstrated enough capacities in the college over the years.

According to him, many contestants stepped down  for him and his becoming the provost was the best thing for college.

“His emergence is a good thing for the college, we are not surprise  because he has demonstrated capacity  right from the time he was dean. As a dean of clinical medicine, he did very well and we hoped he will do better’ he said.

 Prof. Ojiyi, succeeds Professor Walter Nwafia, whose tenure expired  August 2, 2020.
