LAGOS, Nigeria – Nollywood actress, Victoria Inyama is talking lately about men and why most of them are misogynists. Alluding to a play by William Shakespeare, the Nollywood diva said, Shakespeare in his first soliloquy poured contempt on his mother and extends the contempt to all women.

“This to a reasonable extent proves that majority of d misogynistic men’s hatred for women started from their hatred 4 their mothers & I can prove this! D bias that still exists within Culture, Religion, & Politics are hurdles women are still striving to overcome in their quest for Respect at least!”, she said.

Besides, she attributes lack of respect for the girl child to African culture that places so much emphasis on the boy child.

“Culture greatly contributes to d subordination of women. D typical Africa family being a social institution is d main culprit responsible 4 d subordination of women by that initial role labelling whereby d male child is more important than d female! This conditioning automatically forces her to believe her whole life is to Please a man”, she said.

William Shakespeare’s play Hamlet in his 1st Soliloquy pours contempt on his Mother & extends that contempt to all women! This to a reasonable extent proves that majority of d misogynistic men’s hatred for women started from their hatred 4 their mothers & I can prove this! D bias that still exists within Culture, Religion, & Politics are hurdles women are still striving to overcome in their quest for Respect at least! Gender being d Social & Cultural construction of Sexual Identity, d characteristic qualities of maleness & femaleness are largely artefacts of Culture, & arbitrarily imposed cultural constructions at that.

Culture being defined as d values, beliefs & patterns of behaviour shared by a group of people, these ideas/ behaviours/ traditions are passed on from generation to generation & are typically resistant to change 🤦🏽‍♀️.

Sadly d African aspects of culture is ethnocentrism which forces its people to see d world from “ their own” perspective believing that it’s both right & correct! Culture greatly contributes to d subordination of women. D typical Africa family being a social institution is d main culprit responsible 4 d subordination of women by that initial role labelling whereby d male child is more important than d female!

This conditioning automatically forces her to believe her whole life is to Please a man!!!!

Part 2 will be how Religion causes this issue too🤦🏽‍♀️
