PORT HARCOURT, Rivers, Nigeria – Deputy governorship candidate of the African Action Congress(AAC) Chief Akpo Bomba Yeeh has resigned his members of the party and defected to the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) ahead of April 5 to 9 when Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) will resume collation, supplementary elections between 13th and 15th April and results by 19th April.
Chief Akpo Bomba Yeeh ran under the AAC as Deputy Governorship candidate with Mr. Awara Biokpomabo, who was governorship candidate of the AAC for the March 9 governorship and house of assembly election.
He said he decided to resign as a result of the blood letting in Rivers State allegedly orchesterated by Minister for Transportation, Hon. Rotimi Amaechi in his lust for power and quest to remove Nyesome Wike as governor of Rivers State.
“I was the deputy governorship candidate of African Alliance I have decided to withdraw my candidacy and to resign with immediate effect. As the deputy governorship candidate, I ran the governorship election with the govrnorship canidate in good fate from the primary supervised by the INEC, however shortly after our emergence, it dawned on me tthat the AAC was not serious about the 2019 election, the AAC did no other thing apart from submiting our names to INEC for the election”, he said.
According to him AAC did not field any candidate for the national and state houses of assembly seat. “We printed no campaign posters nor mounted any campaign billboard in the state, neither did we hold a single campaign rally, or meeting throuhout the campaign period, we never relayed any campaign broadcast, or advert on radio, on teleivision or the print media, no voter in Rivers state even knew what the Logo of AAC in Rivers State looked like.
“However, 72 hours to the election, we received the goodnews that the AAC has been adopted by Hon. Rotimi Amaechi led faction of the APC having been barred by the court from fielding any candidate for the election in teh state apart from the office of the president.

He said, Amaechi offered to help AAC win with condition to confer defactor governor to Rotimi amaechi. “He must be the one to appoint 90 percent of all political appointees, including comissioners, and SSA and members of government boards. Second, he must be the one to nominate and produce all the 23 local govt chairmen, and other principal officiers of the council”, he said, adding that part of the condiditon is that Amaechi must must consulted with him on all financial matters including awards and payment for contracts including other financial transactions upon “our inauguration as governor and deputy governor of the state”, Chief Akpo Bomba Yeeh.
“In addition, I was forced to sign a on-dated letter of resignation to pave way for Rotimi Amaechi to nominate another person of his choice as deputy governor. These are clearly unacceptable condition for any politician worth it sort to accept. But pretended to play along becasue doing otherwise will be too dangerous a game to play for the safety of my life.
“Given Rotimi Amaechi’s despiration to remove Nyesome Wike and install Engineer Awarah at all cost, the AAC went into the March 9 governorship election as adopted baby of the APC with confidence that Rotimi Amaechi will use his connection and federal might to rig it into office. But we are all witnesses to what happened on the day of the election. Report received indicates that despite intimidation from the army the election went on peacefully in virtually all the local government areas of the state except Abua, where the army led by APC thugs prevented distribution of election materials to the wards and units.
“Futhermore, results received from agents of the AAC further showed that elections have been conducted in 19 out of the 23 local government before INEC suspended the process following reported attack of its state headquarters by a contigent of the army on the 10th of March 2019.
“The collated results receved from the agents shows that contrary to the false claims, by the APC/AAC alliance, the PDP overwhelmingly won across all the elections in 18 out of the 19 local government area culminating in the returning of the party into the 6 states house of assembly constitunecy by the constituency returning officers, this fact was confirmed by on the 13th of March 2019 when INEC declared that it has in its safe custody, collated results for 17 local government areas and declaration and return of PDP candidates in 21 state consituncies.
“The election clearly shows the direction and decision of the people of Rivers State. Even the blind can hear that Rivers people overwhelmingly voted to stick with Governor Wike for the next four years to encourage him with the good work he has been doing to reposition the state in the last 3 and half years”, he said.
As a burgeoning politician, he explained he has the responsibility to protect and promote democracy, good governance and the rule of law. “We all agree that the despiration and failed attempt by Rotimi Amaechi to use the army to rig the election for this infantile AAC candidate was an affront on the democratic rights of rivers people to freely elect their leaders, then what can we say, about the organised brutalilty and killings that he unleashed in innocent persons in Ahoda, Degema, Emoha, Khana, Ikwere and others
Amaechi bent on subverting the will of Rivers People/ Defection
Despite local and international condemnation, Rotimi Amaechi still bent on subverting the manifest will of the people of Rivers state as expressed on 9th of May 2019, by using security personnel to violently arrest, intimidate and force collation officers to change already collated results in favour of the AAC canddiate. Decision to rig the election both morally and legally wrong, reprehinsible and inimical to the collective interest of the the people of rivers state. The almighty God will not forgive me if I continue to lend my support to the Rotimi Amaechi strategy against the democratic right of the people of Rivers State to freely elect their own leaders..Icannot continue to support the brutality and bloodleting quest on account of one man’s lustre for power”, he said, adding that power belongs to God, and he gives it to whom he wants.
“God has returned Nyesome Wike to power as governor of Rivers State for the next four years and there is nothing anybody can do about it other than to support him. Therefore after due consultaiton with my family and political associates, I the Deputy Govenrorship candidate of the AAC, Chief Akpo Bomba Yeeh hereby resign my members of the AAC and announce my defection to the PDP to join hands with governor Wike to move Rivers State forward”, he saiid
