#EthiopianAirline: Flight data recorder, Cockpit voice recorder recovered

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia – Management of the Ethiopian Airline said it has discovered the Digital Flight Data Recorder and Cockpit Voice Recorder. Search and rescue operation commenced on Sunday shortly after the Ehiopian Airline crashed few minutes after take off from Addis Ababa enroute Nairobi.

The plane has 157 travellers on board, all confirmed dead.

“The Digital Flight Data Recorder(DFDR) and Cockpit Voice Recorder(CVR) of ET302 have been Recovered”, management of the airline said in a bulletine.

“The aircraft B-737-800MAX with registration number ET-AVJ took off 08:38 from Addis Ababa Bole International Airport and lost contact at 08:44 am. At this time, search and rescue are in operation, we have no confirmed information about survivors or casualties”, it said, adding that staff of the airline will be sent to the scene of the accident to assist in the operation.

It also confirmed that there are 149 passengers on board with 8 crew members.

Meanwhile, the airline has grounded its Boeing 737 MAX 8 fleet after the crash.

“Following the tragic accident of ET 302… Ethiopian Airlines has decided to ground all B-737-8 MAX fleet effective yesterday, March 10, until further notice.

“Although we don’t yet know the cause of the accident, we have to decide to ground the particular fleet as an extra safety precaution.

The management of the Ethiopian airline also confirmed that Amb. Abiodun Bashua was one of Nigerian passengers on board.
