OSUN, Nigeria – The Osun Governorship Election Tribunal sitting in Abuja today declared the dancing senator, Sen. Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) as winner of the September 22, 2018 governorship election.
Recall that Adeleke scored 254,698 votes to defeat the candidate of the All Progressives Congress Adegboyega Oyetola who polled 254,345 votes. But INEC however declared the election inconclusive.
In a supplementary election, the APC went into alliance with former PDP chieftain, Dr. Iyiola Omisore and also deployed policemen, DSS, and military personnel to Osun, which intimidated voters. The result was that INEC declared Gboyega Oyetola winner of the election.
Delivering judgement on the suit, the tribunal said the September 27, 2018 supplementary election was unnecessary and that the returning officer had no right to cancel polls in seven units that led to the supplementary poll.
The Tribunal cancelled the result of 17 polling units thereby deducting 2,227 from APC votes and 1,246 votes from PDP votes.
