KINSHASA – Main opposition candidate in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Felix Tshisekedi has been declared winner of the December 30, 2018 presidential election.
DRC Election chief Corneille Nangaa declared Tshisekedi winner after securing 38.57 percent of the vote, just ahead of Martin Fayulu. Fayulu scored just 34.8 percent.
Former interior minister Emmanuel Ramazani Shadaryhadaray came third with 23.8 percent of total vote cast.
Shortly after announcing him winner, Tshisekedi (54) paid tribute to President Joseph Kabila , with a vow to work with him during the transition.
“We should no longer see him as an adversary, but rather, a partner in democratic change in our country,” he said.
Meanwhile the Catholic church which deployed about 40 people to monitor the election has said that the result of the election did not tally with what was collected from the field.
