LAGOS, Nigeria – The ruling All Progressive Congress(APC) has said that it will not disobey the judgement of the Supreme Court which annulled all congresses held in Rivers State by the pro-Amaechi-led Executive Council which produced Flag Amachree as chairman.
A Rivers State High Court had annulled result of the primary when the Rotimi Amaech-led faction of the APC disobeyed a subsisting injunction restraining it from going ahead with the primary. But the appelate court in Rivers State overturned judgement of the lower court only for the Supreme Court to uphold the verdict of the Rivers State High Court, noting that the Appeal court erred when it upturned judgement of the lower court.
However, speaking on Channels TV, National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Mr Lanre Issa Onilu said that the APC will not disobey judgement of the Supreme Court. The pro-Magnus Abe faction of the APC in the state had called on the party to forward Magnus Abe to INEC as governorship candidate of the party in the 2019 election, since the Supreme Court had invalidated the Executive Council that produced Tonye Cole as governorship candidate of the APC.
But Lanre Onilu said the National Working Committee(NWC) of the party is yet to meet to decide on the matter, adding that “good or bad, the party will not disobey court judgement”, he said.
Lanre Issa Onilu said jumping from one party to another is normal in a democratic setting and that the party understands that things might not turn out the way one expects adding that the APC expects people to ventilate their grievances. “We will listen to them and resolve issues both in the national and interest of the party”, he said.
He called on aggrieved members to use platforms made available by the party to resolve issues. While stressing that the situation will get better in the party, he appeal to members to exercise restraint and that everything will be done to ensure that people do not leave the party.
