LAUSANNE, Switzerland – The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) said it has registered 22 appeals filed by Russian athletes against decisions taken by the Disciplinary Commission of the International Olympic Committee (IOC DC).
The IOC DC found the athletes to have committed anti-doping rule violations during the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games, disqualified them from the events in which they participated at the Games and forfeited all medals they won.
The athletes were also declared ineligible to participate in any capacity in all subsequent editions of the Olympic Games.The athletes concerned are: Aleksandr Zubkov (bobsleigh) Maria Orlova (skeleton), Dmitry Trunenkov (bobsleigh) Olga Vilukhina (biathlon), Aleksei Negodailo (bobsleigh) Yana Romanova (biathlon),Alexander Kasyanov (bobsleigh), Alexander Legkov (cross-country skiing) and Aleksei Pushkarev (bobsleigh).
Others are Evgeniy Belov (cross-country skiing), Ilvir Khuzin (bobsleigh) Maxim Vylegzhanin (cross-country skiing), Olga Stulneva (bobsleigh) Alexey Petukhov (cross-country skiing, Aleksander Tretiakov (skeleton) Julia Ivanova (cross-country skiing), Sergei Chudinov (skeleton) Evgenia Shapovalova (cross-country skiing), Elena Nikitina (skeleton) Olga Fatkulina (speed skating) and Olga Potylitsyna (skeleton) Alexander Rumyantsev (speed skating)
CAS said an arbitration procedure has been opened for each athlete. Directions with respect to the next steps in these matters will be issued to the parties in a few days, CAS said adding that the athletes have requested it to issue its final awards before the beginning of the Olympic Winter Games 2018.
