UMUAHIA, Abia, Nigeria – Nigerian Professional Football League, NPFL club, Abia Warriors has signed on Rafael Everton to manage the club for the rest of the season.
Media Officer of the club, Igwe Onouha made the revelation in a short statement on Thursday. Abia Warrior signed him on after the Brazilian parted ways with Anambra Warriors due to what he called lack of the right environment for expression.
Everton led the Anambra Warriors to a fourth place finish in the Nigeria Professional Football League last season and helped them win their first Federation Cup title, but resigned just two days after that triumph in 2016 after being relegated to a lesser role.
The Brazilian then returned before the start of the 2016/17 season to assist ex-Ghana international, Yaw Preko after Japenese-American coach, Kenichi Yatsuhashi left the club, also, citing ‘unprofessional conduct’ as his reason.
“I left Ifeanyi Ubah because I wasn’t with happy, I resigned because a lot of problems forced me out of the club,” Everton told Goal.
“I would like to appreciate all my fans, friends, family members who have always shown me love and support. Unfortunately, I have to leave IfeanyiUbah. I will always say thank to them for the opportunity to work in Nigeria.
“I was denied expression, I can’t really work the way I would have loved to because the environment doesn’t in any way support that. There’s a huge external influence.
“Instructions on players selection is forced on the coach and this for me isn’t professional. I resigned because I don’t like this at all. The current style at IfeanyiUbah is unprofessional.
“I like Nigeria too much, Nigeria is my second home. I love Nigeria, it’s my second love and I missed the people, culture, food and a lot of things about this hugely blessed country.
“I think I may be back in Nigeria very soon with another club because as I speak to you, I have resigned at Ifeanyi Ubah and I am free to join other clubs that shows interest”, he said.
