HAMBURG – SV Hamburg and Leicester City are battling to recruit former Netherlands striker Ruud van Nistelrooy as their new coach, media reports said on Monday.
According to German broadcaster Sky, Van Nistelrooy is on second-tier Hamburg’s shortlist to replace the sacked Steffen Baumgart.
But reports in England say the 48-year-old is one of three candidates for the managerial position at Premier League Leicester, along with former West Ham boss David Moyes and ex-Chelsea coach Graham Potter. The 2016 English champions parted ways with Steve Cooper on Sunday.
Van Nistelrooy played for Hamburg from January 2010 to June 2011 and began his coaching career three years later. He recently returned to ex-club Manchester United as an assistant and interim coach but left two weeks ago following the appointment of Portuguese manager Ruben Amorim.
