LONDON– A serial killer Stephen Port was today Friday, 25 November, at the Old Bailey slammed with a whole life sentence for the murder of four young gay men and drugging and sexually assaulting another seven victims.
Port, 41, a chef, of Cooke Street, Barking, was found guilty on Wednesday, 23 November of a total of 22 offences in Barking.
A jury convicted him of the murders of Anthony Walgate, 23; Gabriel Kovari, 22; Daniel Whitworth, 21; and, Jack Taylor, 25; and, for each victim, four counts of administering a substance with intent to stupefy / overpower to enable sexual activity.
Port was also found guilty of offences in relation to another seven men – four counts of rape, six counts of administering a substance with intent to stupefy / overpower to allow sexual activity and four counts of assault by penetration.
Detective Chief Inspector Tim Duffield, senior investigating officer from the Met’s Homicide and Major Crime Command, said:
“These evil crimes have left entire families, a community and a nation in shock. I have previously said that Port is one of the most dangerous individuals I’ve encountered in almost 28 years of policing and a full life term in prison was the only appropriate punishment in the circumstances.
“All of those affected have my deepest sympathies and I hope they can find some solace from the fact that Port will spend the remainder of his life behind bars.”
