December 30, 2015 – President Muhammad Buhari today said that his ministers are not corrupt and that he did not pick anybody that would be an embarrassment to his government.
Buhari who spoke during his maiden media chat said he will however not hesitate to sack and prosecute anybody found wanting.
The President also asserted that those who looted public funds are returning them but did not say how much has been returned. He explained that government has been lucky enough to lay hands on documents that will be used to prosecute alleged looters, but that governments cannot do it alone since some involved international institutions, insurance and others adding that Nigeria is appealing for cooperation on the side of nations involved.
He said government will work hard to be able to secure conviction even though those affected are influential members of the society that can afford services of the best of lawyers.
He explained that while some diverted public funds into personal use some diverted petroleum products and that government will have to find out if what they did was with approval, personal initiative of order from above.
He said that by next quarter the direction of the war against corruption will become clear, adding that nobody will be above the law.
