April 27, 2015 – At least 5,483 people have tied the nuptial knot in Lagos in the last one year, Commissioner for Local Government, Mr. Ademurin Kuye has said.
Kuye who was speaking at a press conference in Lagos said the couples tied the nuptial knot in the various registries in the 20 local governments and 37 local council development areas in the state.
He said that the marriage unit of the ministry generated revenue into State coffers through the issuance of 120 Nos. of Special Licenses, registration of 6 Nos. of Churches and renewal of 2 Nos. of Churches for marriage purposes.
“The control mechanism put in place has helped reduced the proliferation of marriage institutions and curbed the activities of con-men who aim to dupe innocent citizens”, he said.
He said the ministry has been working assiduously with the GEMS3 partners on improving the revenue generation efforts of respective Local Governments in Lagos State.
“ A pilot project was launched in Ejigbo LCDA which recorded a huge success. Additional Local Governments are set to take off soon in areas such as Ikeja, Agege, Ajeromi. Mushin,V.I./Iru, Ikoyi Obalende, and Apapa. This partnership is necessary to help reduce revenue loss and block loopholes in revenue generation”, he said.
