February 10, 2015 – The United Nations (UN) has thrown its weight behind efforts by the Federal Government to crush the menace of the radical Islamic sect, Boko Haram.

The UN is showing open support for Nigeria just as the Niger Parliament voted to deploy more troops to the Multinational force currently operating in Nigeria.

Leader of the sect, Abubakar Shekau had in a video vowed that he would defeat the Multinational Force, and even said that the total strength of 7,800 troops was just too small and that at least 70 million would have been deplored but that he will deal with all of them one by one, noting that the whole world remains enemy of the sect.

But speaking in Abuja, Secretary General of the United Nations, Mr. Ban Ki-Moon said the UN is in total support of Nigeria’s effort to eradicate the sect, pointing out that the Lake chad basin remains the best regional platform to deal with the sect.

Speaking through former scribe, Mr. Ibn Chambers, the scribe said it is supporting the regional force through the UN Department of Peace Keeping to ensure a truly joint operational force with clear command and purpose with unity to enable them work with one purpose to eliminate Boko Haram.

He said the postpone of the elections has been accepted by parties and that the real reason for the postponement of the election has been known, stressing that in some states, only few collected Permanent Voter Card(PVC), stressing that the extension provides opportunity for many to collect their PVC.

He commended President Goodluck Jonathan and the people of Nigeria for maturity demonstrated so far.
