Fayose Alleges Conspiracy as Over 300 Inmates Escape After Jailbreak in Ekiti

December 1, 2014 – Not less than 300 inmates today escaped from prison after a jailbreak in Ado-Ekiti.

While confirming the incident, Comptroller of Prisons in Ekiti State, Mr. Kehinde Fadipe said the jailbreak occurred at 10:15 PM on Sunday after an attack by over 30 gunmen.

He said the assailants attacked with dynamites which threw the prison gate open forcing most of the inmates to run for dear life.

He said that there was no casualty but that some of those who escaped have been arrested while his men are still in search of those still on the run.

He ruled out the possibility of an attack by the radical Islamic sect, Boko Haram adding that the motive of the attackers is yet to determined.

Speaking at the prison during a visit, Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose said he is not impressed with situation in the prison adding that the warders are not alive to their responsibilities.

He said there is a conspiracy somewhere. “Inmates are using telephones in collaboration with the warders. How can 300 inmates escape from a prison of over 400 inmates?, he queried, adding that Abuja needs to overhaul officials drafted to the prison.
