UEFA EURO 2016 Mascot Unveiled, Begins Journey In France

November 18, 2014 – The mascot for the UEFA EURO 2016 has been unveiled. The mascot, Half child, half superhero, according to UEFA will encourage fans from all over the world to celebrate the ‘art of football’.

The mascot is based on the story of a boy brought up in France, that one day acquired special powers when playing football with his friends.

“Having kicked the ball behind a fence, he went to explore and discovered a mysterious chest with a cape, a ball and football boots, which enabled him to fly as well as play superb football. His outfit is inspired by the French flag and the colours of the host country”, UEFA said on its website.

The mascot will begin his journey in France before moving to the rest of Europe. The character is also expected to make appearances for UEFA and its partners between now and the finals, which will kick off 10 June 2016.

According to UEFA, the boy in question does not have a name and it is calling on all to choose a name from one of the three suggested on the UEFA website.

The name of the boy will be revealed on 30 November while the lucky winner will be notified on 14 December . Prizes are limited to residents in France who are members of a football club affiliated to the French Football Federation (FFF).
