    17 FEARED KILLED AS BOAT CAPSIZES IN LAGOS

    January 30, 2016 – At least 17 people are feared killed when a passenger boat capsized in Lagos.
    The boat according to Director of Fire, Lagos State Fire Service, Eng. Rasaq Fadipe had about 17 passengers on board when the incident occurred.

    He said the boat was sailing from Ijede, Ikorodu axis and capsized at Badore also in Ikorodu axis. He did not state what caused the accident but that 5 of those on board have been rescued alive and are now been taking to General Hospital in Ijede for medical attention.

    In an update, he said that out of 5 in the hospital, 3 are now dead. He said one died at Ijede General Hospital, while 2 others died at Aromedics Hospital.

    Also speaking on the incident, South West Zonal Coordinator‎ of the National Emergency Management Agency, Bandele Onimode said the accident happened around 10:29 in the morning.

    He said the search and ‎rescue operation are ongoing, adding that the boat was coming from Ijede area of Ikorodu.
