December 02, 2015 -The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has warned dealers and end users of firecrackers to be careful due to hazard that it constitutes to the people and the environment.

General Manager Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Mr. Michael Akindele who gave the warning in Alausa said that the Lagos State Police Commissioner has outlawed the use of firecrackers in the state.

He recalled the Jankara fire incident of 26th December, 2012 which he said was caused by storage of firecrackers in some of the shops leading to loss of lives and properties worth million of Naira.

The General Manager noted that the noise created by the device and the large amount of debris left over after explosion is hazardous to the environmental adding that it could degenerate to disaster under certain conditions.

He added that careless use of firecrackers may be dangerous to the users and those nearby since they stand the risks of sustaining burns.

Akindele therefore enjoined parents and guardians to warn their children and wards to desist from the use of firecrackers, adding that operatives of relevant agencies will apprehend defaulters.

He said that the State Government is so much concerned with the safety of lives and properties and has put on red alert all relevant agencies and security operatives to combats any form of crime and emergency across the state.
