[wysija_form id=”1″]March 13, 2015 – Witch doctors in Tanzania are prepared to pay as much as $75,000 to purchase complete body parts of albinos, the Red Cross society has said.
Red Cross made the disclosure following renewed crackdown on witchdoctors in Tanzania which led to arrest of over 200 witchdoctors.
Last week at least 32 witchdoctors were detained by the police. The United Nation said that over 80 albinos have been killed by witchdoctors and traditional healers in Tanzania since 2000.
The kidnapping and killing of albinos is based on belief by witchdoctors and traditional healers that albinos have properties that confer wealth and good luck.
Speaking on the development, President Jakaya Kikwete described the murder of albino people as an evil that has shamed Tanzania.
A few weeks back a one-year-old albino boy was killed. Earlier in the year, the government banned witchdoctors as part of efforts to prevent further attacks and kidnappings of albinos.
