July 19, 2014 – Search for talents is assuming a new dimension in Nigeria as more corporate organisations continue to pitch their tenths either for Project Fame, Nigerian Idols and dance shows among others.

While these social activities are assisting to engage the teeming youths by offering solace to many, it must not be used as an avenue to make many lose self-confidence which is critical for success in life. A simple no by the judges after the initial performance is just okay.

No doubts, a lot of talents have emerged from these activities. Till date we have the likes of Chidinma, Nyanya, Dare Art Alade and Timi Dakolo and recently Eevel to name just a few.

But it is beginning to assume a disturbing trend as most losers are called out and humiliated right there in front of the camera. A simple no by the judge is just okay. Failure is never celebrated but it seems that is what shows of this nature is tending to be these days.

The organizers must take a cue from corporate organisations who will not call anybody to their office only to be told that he failed an interview.

It is common practice to invite only those who are successful. To do otherwise would tantamount to invitation to trouble as representatives of most employers would end up losing their teeth or something more in the process.

Experts are suggesting that it suffices to show clips of the audition but going ahead to call out participants who are full of expectation and tell them sorry can be dehumanizing psychologically.

Most of those who attend auditions are no doubt young jobless Nigerian who are throwing themselves into any available opportunity to try their luck. They don’t deserve any humiliation the way shows of this nature are turning to. Corporate organisations please take note.
