More troubling is the emergence of poorly constructed drainages that were never linked to canals in the Lekki axis, the result has been the perennial flooding and awful sights in some of the drainages, emitting pungent and very putrid smell denigrating such a high profile environment, making one to wonder what has happened to sanitary inspectors

IKEJA – Lagos is changing and it appears to be changing very fast in the opposite direction and it may not take long before deadly diseases break out in Lekki, area considered to be the reserve for the rich and celebrities, who can afford the high cost of living, all thanks to a state that appears to be on autorun.
The focus of the Babajide Sanwo-Olu government seems to be on building bridges, in the Lekki axis, in Ikeja and other area due to the high profit margins that attends such gigantic projects in a state that is riddled with bad roads, poor planning in some places and with lack of enforcement of environmental laws.

Where you have roads, most of them have been blocked with gates, parties in the midst of the road, with some landlords converting government roads into estate and in the process restricting access due to security concerns.
Although in 2016 and 2020, the Lagos State Government ordered immediate re-opening of all street gates and barricades between 5am and 12 mid-night, warning that gates in defaulting streets would be pulled down, the order remains merely on paper without any enforcement, all thanks to a governor who appears not to be interested in the welfare of the people he is expected to protect.
If his Excellency is not aware, gated streets are still found at the Sir Michael Otedola Estate, when exiting Lagos, Osapa London and other areas in the state.
More troubling is the emergence of poorly constructed drainages that were never linked to canals in the Lekki axis, the result has been the perennial flooding and awful sights in some of the drainages, emitting pungent and very putrid smell denigrating such a high profile environment, making one to wonder what has happened to sanitary inspectors – a development that can only be attributed to lack of interest in a government that should naturally be interested in the health and welfare of the people of Lagos State irrespective of where they live.
His Excellency can just drive through Fubara Dublin Green Street Igbo Efon and Bamidele Eletu Street, Muftau Eletu and surrounding Estates in Agungi, all in the Osapa axis and he will be dazed with his findings about drainages that have been blocked because they were never linked to existing canals which have been built over time in the area by successive government to take water out of the environment, the result is an impending doom, and an epidemic which will spring out this time from unexpected quarters and spill over into other areas of the state.

To build a megacity! We should invest massively in infrastructural facilities especially metro rail line and effective transportation services, road and electricity must our priorities.
I have been to many countries around the world and their megacity city (ies) are magnificent with infrastructural capacity to accommodate their megacities projects. We haven’t started on the megacity project. We still have a long way to go.
But a Chinese proverb saying that one thousand miles begins with a step, but in a right direction.
