WASHINGTON – The United States has said that the United States will withdraw its remaining personnel from its embassy in Venezuela this week. In a statement, Secretary of State, Michael Pompeo said like the January 24 decision, this decision reflects the deteriorating situation in Venezuela as well as the conclusion that the presence of U.S. diplomatic staff at the embassy has become a constraint on U.S. policy.
“The United States will withdraw all remaining U.S. personnel from the U.S. Embassy in Caracas, Venezuela this week.
Like the January 24 decision to withdraw all dependents and reduce embassy staff to a minimum, this decision reflects the deteriorating situation in Venezuela as well as the conclusion that the presence of U.S. diplomatic staff at the embassy has become a constraint on U.S. policy”, the US said in a statement.
Relations between the United States and Venezuela took a turn for the worst when Juan Guaido declared himself Interim President of Venezuela in opposition to President Nicholas Maduro. Since then there has been widespread unrest, leading to humanitarian crisis.
The US was the first to back Guaido and has called on other foreign nations to join the fray. Few days ago, the US imposed sanction on one of the banks believed to be used by Maduro to launder money,
