NEW YORK — In an unprecedented display of global condemnation, dozens of diplomats and world leaders walked out of the United Nations General Assembly today as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu mounted the podium.
The mass exodus transformed the world’s most prestigious diplomatic stage into a cavernous, echoing chamber, underscoring Israel’s deep international isolation over allegations of war crimes and genocide in Gaza.
The dramatic protest unfolded in real time: as Netanyahu’s name was announced, entire national delegations rose in unison, turned their backs, and filed out of the hall. At the same time, Israel continues to face proceedings brought by South Africa at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), accusing the state of violating the 1948 Genocide Convention.
With the military campaign in Gaza resulting in widespread devastation, mass displacement, and tens of thousands of civilian casualties, Israel’s diplomatic relationships have fractured.
The visual collapse of support at the UN reflects a broader shift among traditional Western allies and global powers, signaling that the Israeli prime minister now operates with unprecedented global pariah status.
