    TWO CONFIRMED DEAD, 8 CRITICALLY INJURED IN LAGOS GAS FIRE, SEE PICTURES

    MAGODO, Lagos, Nigeria – Two people have been confirmed dead while eight others sustained serious injuries following an explosion at a gas station at CMD Road, Magodo, Lagos.

    The cause of the explosion could not be ascertained as at press time, but Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA said the agency was alerted at about 7.26 am today 15th January, 2018.

    According to the agency, three reservoirs’ tank for storage of gas and one 33, 000 litre gas truck at Second Coming Gas Station were consumed by the fire.

    “Unfortunately two burnt bodies were recovered behind the fence of the gas station, while 8 casualties were also recorded with various degrees of burns and injuries which were attended to by the Officials of the Lagos State Ambulance Service and the Agency’s Paramedics before moving two with more degrees of burns to Trauma Centre, Toll Gate for further medical attention”, General Manager, LASEMA, Mr. Adesina Tiamiyu said in a statement.

    According to him, the situation is completely under control with perimeter of the vicinity secured, while staff have been evacuated from the scene.

    He said that the Officials of IKEDC have completely isolated power supply from the affected area to avoid any other incident.

    He however assures that proper investigation would be conducted to ascertain possible cause and to prevent future reoccurrence of this unfortunate and avoidable incident in the State.

    He said men of the Lagos State Fire Service with four fire trucks and the LRU Fire Unit with two fire trucks were able to contained the spread to adjourning buildings in the area. Other emergency responders on ground includes RRS, Federal Road Safety Corps, National Emeregency Management Agency, Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps, Red Cross, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority and the Federal Fire Service.
