IKEJA, Lagos, Nigeria – The Governorship Election Tribunal sitting in Ikeja, Lagos today returned Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu as the validly elected governor of Lagos State.

The 3-man tribunal led by Justice Terhemen Asua, dismissed petitions filed by Ifagbemi Awamaridi of Labour Party(LP), against the governor and returned the governor elected unopposed.

In the judgement delivered for over 3 hours without power supply, the chairman averred that the petitioner did not lead evidence before the tribunal exept to dump evidence and that the evidence remained in sealed envelop the way they were brought to court, stressing that the petitioner refused to tie the evidence with the witness.

He said that the though the petitioner called 6 witness only three testified but that they refused to speak on specific incidence in a particular polling booth out of the 13,000 polling centres in Lagos State.

He ruled that the evidence presented are manifestly unreliable and dismissed the petition as lacking merit. “The Petition lacks merit and is hereby dismissed and sanwo-olu is hereby returned as the validly elected governor on March 9, 2019, he is the governor”, the chairman declared.

The tribunal is now ruling on the petition of Owolabi Salis of the Alliance for Democracy.
