January 06, 2016 – The Lagos State Head of Service, Mrs. Olabowale Ademola charged auditors in the State Public Service to expand their horizon and think radically in the discharge of their duty.

Ademola who made the observation in her keynote address at a sensitization workshop with the theme, “Emerging Areas in Contemporary Auditing for Executives of Ministries, Departments and Agencies in Lagos State”, said they have to think outside the box even though traditional audit practice will remain the bedrock of auditing.

She explained that, the totality of an organization’s attained corporate objective over a specific period is directly proportionate to the quantum of its development in human capital.

She noted that training and retraining is one of the most critical elements in ensuring optimal staff performance and effective discharge of the mandate in the attainment of overall policy objective.
Earlier in her welcome address, the Auditor General of Lagos State, Mrs. Helen Deile stated that the sensitization workshop is expected to lay structural foundation for growth and development.

She noted that the workshop has been packaged to complement ongoing State Government’s efforts to reposition and strengthen the various tools towards achieving an overall objective of moving the State to the next level.

Also speaking, Chairman, Lagos State Audit Service Commission, Mr. Waliu Onibon stated that, the essence of documentation of detailed activities of government cannot be overemphasized in order to ensure effective and efficient service delivery.

He noted that effective budget implementation depends on understanding the risk inherent in performance of each MDA towards achieving government goals. He enjoined all Chief Executives of MDAs to cooperate with the State Auditor General to document business processes and create risk registers for each agency to assist in audit exercise.
