LAGOS — The Nigerian movie industry, Nollywood, has once again been plunged into deep mourning following the tragic passing of popular Yoruba actress and film producer, Temitope Osoba. The talented film star died at the age of 40.
The heartbreaking news of her death broke on Wednesday morning, August 5, 2026, leaving colleagues, fans, and the wider entertainment community in a state of shock.

Her death was officially made public by fellow Nollywood actor Alesh Sanni, who took to his verified Instagram page to share an emotional tribute expressed in deep sorrow.
Sanni revealed that he had been unable to sleep since receiving the devastating news, describing the late actress as a cherished sister and close confidante with whom he shared unforgettable moments.
”Couldn’t sleep since last night, it’s well. Rest in peace my dearest sister, Temitope Osoba,” Sanni wrote on Instagram. “We had amazing time and good memories together, till we meet again. I really dunno what to say mehn, gosh.”

Born and raised in Lagos State, Temitope Osoba was the first child of her parents and the only child of her mother.
She completed her primary and secondary education in Lagos before pursuing higher studies at Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) in Ogun State, where she graduated with a degree in Business Education.
Long before establishing herself as a staple face in mainstream Nollywood, Osoba broke into the showbiz landscape through music videos and dancing.
She worked as a prominent video vixen and back-up dancer, featuring in high-profile music videos for veteran Nigerian music stars, including Fuji maestro Wasiu Alabi Pasuma, Weird MC, Olu Maintain, Artquake, and Rasqie.
Her entry into full-time acting happened organically when she stumbled upon a film rehearsal in Ashogbon, a famed Lagos spot for movie auditions. Her natural dancing skills immediately caught the attention of filmmakers, earning her a debut role in Laide Bakare’s hit movie Ijoya.
From that point on, Osoba built an impressive filmography, capturing the hearts of millions of Yoruba movie lovers across Nigeria and the diaspora.
