AWKA, Nigeria -;The Anambra State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticized Governor Charles Soludo for what it described as the “unwarranted celebration” of his recent meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stating that such a visit is neither unprecedented nor politically significant.

In a strongly worded statement issued by the Nicholas Ukachukwu/Uche Ekwunife Campaign Organization, the party dismissed the visit to the Presidential Villa as “the last kick of a dying horse,” stating that it will not alter the outcome of the forthcoming November gubernatorial election.

According to the statement signed by Mr. Okechukwu Modebe, spokesperson for the APC governorship candidate, Soludo’s visit to Aso Rock is a clear indication of desperation and declining political influence.

“The theatrics surrounding Governor Soludo’s visit to President Tinubu are nothing more than a political spectacle aimed at salvaging a dwindling public image. It is neither his first visit to the Villa nor a feat worth celebrating,” the statement read.

The APC campaign further accused the governor and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) of attempting to spin the visit into a political endorsement, which it claims does not exist.

“This latest attempt to posture for the cameras with Mr. President cannot erase four years of misgovernance, disconnection from the grassroots, and political miscalculations. Soludo’s administration has failed to deliver tangible dividends of democracy to the people of Anambra State,” Modebe said.

Reacting to media reports with headlines such as ‘Ukachukwu, Ekwunife Jittery as Tinubu, Soludo Meet in Villa’, Modebe maintained that such narratives are misleading and aim to manufacture political relevance where none exists.

“The Presidency is not on campaign ground. Every state governor reserves the right to meet with the Commander-in-Chief on matters of governance. To parade such meetings as political endorsements is to insult the intelligence of the Anambra electorate,” he added.

Modebe reaffirmed APC’s preparedness for both the upcoming Anambra gubernatorial election and the Anambra South senatorial re-run scheduled for Saturday, August 16.

He stated that the APC’s decision to field Chief Azuka Okwuosa as its candidate was strategic, describing him as “a political Iron-Gate” capable of leading the party’s charge to victory.

“We do not engage in empty noise-making. Our campaign has been strategic and deeply rooted in the grassroots. The senatorial re-run will serve as a litmus test to demonstrate how unpopular APGA and Governor Soludo have become in the state,” Modebe said.

He also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure professionalism and neutrality in the conduct of the elections, emphasizing that “the days of business-as-usual in Anambra politics are over.”
