IKEJA, Lagos, Nigeria – Lawyers in the employ of the Lagos State Government have been advised to be flexible in different areas of delivering legal services to members of the public.

A retired lawyer, Abosede Bolajoko, gave the advise at the monthly Legal Education And Research Node (LEARN) series programme organised by the Ministry of Justice. The event held in Alausa, Ikeja was themed “The Quintessential State Counsel”.

Bolajoko, who retired as a Director at the Ministry  said the career growth of a counsel may be halted if constrained to one area of the profession.

“Do not be a monolithic lawyer, move around the other departments of the Ministry inorder to have a feel of other aspects of the law,” Bolajoko said.

While commending the ministry for sustaining the monthly programme, Ayodele appealed to the counsels  to maintain the legacy of excellence in the ministry.

“As a quintessential counsel you need to submit yourselves to professional training and relearning. Be diligent, hard working and be respectful to your superiors in the Ministry” she said.

Ayodele urged the lawyers to always demonstrate competence by preparing case file properly during court appearance as government representatives.

Solicitor-General/Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Justice, Mrs. Funlola Odunlami was optimistic that the LEARN series programme will contribute to the lawyers’ skills.

She assured the Counsel of government’s continuous investment in their legal education for improved productivity.

The Legal Education and Research Node (LEARN) Series is a monthly program organised by the Ministry of Justice to hone the legal skills of the State Counsel and also equip them with varitable tools essential for successful legal practices in a technology driven world.
