LAGOS, NIGERIA — She built an empire of millions of followers by doling out fierce, unapologetic advice on how to spot a liar and survive toxic relationships.
But today, Nigeria’s most controversial social media therapist, Okoro Blessing Nkiruka—universally known as Blessing CEO—found herself on the wrong side of a very different relationship: the law.
The glamorous 37-year-old influencer was a no-show in court on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, after reportedly falling ill inside the notorious Kirikiri maximum-security prison.
Blessing is currently fighting for her freedom while facing a high-profile, two-count criminal charge brought by Nigeria’s anti-corruption agency, the EFCC. Prosecutors accuse her of executing a brazen N36 million (£18,000) rental scam involving a luxury mansion in the billionaire playground of Lekki, Lagos.
The influencer’s defense attorney, P.I. Nwafuru, stood before Justice D.I. Dipeolu at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi to break the news of his client’s sudden medical emergency.
According to Nwafuru, prison wardens at the Nigerian Correctional Service had called him to report that the self-styled relationship guru was too sick to stand trial.
Promising to provide a full medical report at the next hearing, the defense begged for mercy. Justice Dipeolu subsequently adjourned the trial until Monday, July 20, 2026.
The prosecution alleges that between July 14 and 17, 2024, Blessing deceitfully pocketed N36 million from a victim, Mrs. Ifeyinwa Nonye Okoye. The money was allegedly paid as a lease for a stunning six-bedroom detached duplex on Lekki’s exclusive Tunbosun Osobu Street—a luxury property the EFCC claims Blessing had absolutely no right to lease.
If convicted under the country’s strict anti-fraud laws, the mother-of-two faces years behind bars.
To understand how Nigeria’s self-appointed “relationship therapist” ended up in a prison cell, you have to look at a career built entirely on spectacular drama and viral scandals.
1. The “Onye Eze” Mansion Lie (2019)
Blessing’s taste for luxury real estate has landed her in hot water before. In 2019, she nearly broke the West African internet when she posted photos posing in front of a massive, newly completed mansion, claiming she had built it from scratch through “hard work.”
The actual owner, a wealthy Chinese-based Nigerian businessman named Onye Eze, caught wind of the post. In a humiliating, highly publicized viral video, Blessing was forced to confess on her knees in handcuffs that she had simply taken photos in front of his house for “clout.”
2. The Fake Cancer Scandal (2026)
Her legal woes dramatically escalated earlier this year. In March 2026, a weeping Blessing took to her Instagram to tell her millions of followers she had been diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer and desperately needed money for double-amputation surgery.
Sympathetic fans donated over N13 million (£6,500). However, medical bodies and an outraged public quickly flagged massive inconsistencies in her medical charts. It was later revealed she had allegedly doctored the medical report of a real cancer patient to solicit the funds.
The Nigerian Cancer Society petitioned the authorities, leading to her arrest by the EFCC.
“I’m in high spirits… This story is my biggest breakthrough. Watch God turn this into a big stepping stone.”

Despite currently facing three separate fraud and tenancy-related cases with the EFCC, the defiant influencer has maintained her innocence. Prior to falling ill, she boldly boasted on her social media that her stay in prison was merely “free publicity” and joked that the government should hire her as a “crime prevention brand ambassador.”
For now, the glamour has been stripped away. The influencer who built a career advising women on how to live their best lives must wait in a humid prison cell, hoping her health recovers in time to face the music on July 20.
