IKARE-AKOKO, Ondo, Nigeria – The State Coordinator, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Ondo State, Mrs. Victoria Nnenna Ani has told the corps members that self determination is the only key to their becoming successful.

The State Coordinator made the statement during the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) exhibition/closing ceremony held to put a cap on the activities of SAED programme for the 2021 Batch ‘B’ (Stream 1) orientation course.

Mrs. Ani said that the economic activities and business climate in the country as well as globally has become so challenging and highly competitive that it requires focus and determination to make headway.

My treasured children in the national service, I need to let you know that grass is not greener on the other side as we are made to believe and for you to succeed in whatever you lay your hands on, you must be pragmatic and dynamic in your approach”.

“NYSC has created a pathway for you to tread and be successful, and now the onus lies on you to see the SAED programme as a profitable and rewarding, economic venture which you must not allow to pass you by”.

She advised the members of the service corps to prepare for the post-camp training which she said would be comprehensive and very detailed with ample opportunity to practicalise very elaborately what they started in camp.

“Gentlemen corps members, what you started here as in-camp training is elementary compared to detailed and very comprehensive post-camp training you will be exposed to and I want to assure those who painstakingly follow the training and make the necessary sacrifice, the sky would be a starting point”.

“This programme you are all enjoying and we are begging you to embrace was not available during our own service year, otherwise many of us who took up appointment into the Federal Civil Service would by now be captains of industries, outstanding entrepreneurs and employers of labour” she said.

Mrs. Ani charged the corps members to look beyond what the monthly allowance can bring to them but to be a specialist in their chosen skills / vocations and vigorously pursue their passion.

The State Coordinator appreciated the facilitators for being hardworking, dutiful and committed towards giving the best to the corps members and for showing lots of love and understanding with the management.

In her remarks, the Assistant Director/Head SAED, Mrs. Itohan Ehimwenma thanked all the collaborators for identifying with the programme in the Sunshine State and sought for more synergy to achieve more.

Mrs. Ehimwenma equally acknowledged the immense support of the State Coordinator for creating enabling environment for the SAED Branch to operate and other camp officials for standing by them throughout the period of the in-camp training.

In the inter-platoon skill competition under food processing, corps member, Orugbani, Blessing John of number 10 platoon won the first prize while Agozia, Edna Ekata of number 9 platoon and Aiyedero, Temitope Elizabeth of number 6 platoon came second and third respectively.

In Fashion and Design, corps member Adebayo, Mercy Omowumi of number 6 platoon beat Eziagulu, Anthony Michael of number 3 platoon to second place while George, Ejimchi Kingsley came third.
