JOS, NIGERIA – It was meant to be the impenetrable fortress, the high-altitude home where opponents gasp for air and surrender points.

But the Rwang Pam Stadium, Plateau United’s spiritual home and one of the most feared venues in Nigerian football, was ruthlessly dismantled yesterday as Rivers United stormed the ‘Tin City’ for a sensational 3-1 victory in the NPFL.

The result isn’t just three points—it’s a seismic shockwave that will be felt across the league. Plateau United pride themselves on their dominant home form, a reputation built on the unforgiving high-altitude conditions of Jos. Yet, the “Pride of Rivers” turned the intimidating atmosphere into a walk in the park, sinking the home side’s title ambitions deeper into the mud.

For years, visiting teams have dreaded the trip to the Rwang Pam Stadium. The thin air and passionate home support have consistently given Plateau United a massive edge, earning the ground the moniker “Mountain of Fire” for the inferno they often subject opponents to.
However, yesterday, the fire was all Rivers United.

They demonstrated superior fitness and clinical finishing, suggesting they had a game plan not just for Plateau United’s players, but for the altitude itself. Rivers United’s deadly counter-attacking style proved too much for the hosts.

After Plateau United drew level following Rivers’ opener, the visitors punished a shaky home defence with two quick-fire goals that silenced the usually thunderous Rwang Pam Stadium faithful. The venue, which has witnessed so many Plateau victories, became the scene of a stunning capitulation.

The loss, on their hallowed turf, is a bitter pill for the Plateau United manager and fans. It confirms Rivers United’s status as genuine title contenders and leaves everyone asking: Is the ‘Rwang Pam Fortress’ officially open to attack?
