CAIRO, Egypt – There are mixed feelings as the Arab Convoy named “Steadfastness Convoy”, approaches Egypt on its way to Rafah Crossing to deliver aid and break Israeli blockade of the Gaza Strip.
Many became apprehensive following the decision of the authority in Egypt to detain over 200 activists from Morocco who had landed at the Egyptian airport. We gathered that many would-be participants who had arrived from abroad to join the convoy have also been deported like what happened to many in the Freedom Flotilla.
According to reports from Egypt, security forces detained dozens of Tunisian, French, and Algerian nationals at Cairo Airport to prevent them from joining the Steadfastness Convoy heading to Gaza.
We gathered that others who had already arrived Egypt were deported.
Speaking on the incident, Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement saying no delegation or convoy is allowed to cross Egyptian territory toward Rafah unless there is prior coordination with official authorities and in accordance with security procedures enforced in sensitive border areas.”
The Ministry issued the statement just as the Israeli War minister, Yisrael Katz said the Steadfastness Convoy will not be allowed to enter the Gaza Strip.
He said his expectation is that the Egyptian authorities will prevent the convoy from arriving at the Rafah Crossing.
This statement combined with what is happening in Egypt seems to suggest that Egypt is now coordinating with Israel which is now using hunger as a weapon in the Gaza Strip.
The question now remains, will Egypt give safe passage to the convoy which is on a mission to save the Palestinian or will it side with Israel that has killed over 55,000 Palestinians in its genocidal war without any major move by the Arabs, Egypt inclusive to force Israel to beat a retreat.
The world is watching.
